Florida reported 10,360 new coronaviru­s cases Saturday — the third-highest daily increase — for a total of 254,511 infections, and 95 new fatalities.

The death toll is now 4,197. With 104 non-resident deaths included, up three from the day before, the toll is 4,301.

July 4 marked a recordbrea­king day for new cases in the state, with 11,458 reported. The second-highest increase came Friday, with 11,433 reported.

Central Florida now has 41,444 cases, up 1,615 from a day earlier. There are 482 new cases in Orange for a total of 16,630; 372 in Polk for 6,983; 116 in Seminole for 4,083; 203 in Osceola for 3,861; 180 in Volusia for 3,634; 133 in Brevard for 3,237; 96 in Lake for 2,394; and 33 in Sumter for 622.

Central Florida had 20 of the deaths reported Saturday: nine in Polk County, five in Volusia, two in Seminole and Orange each, and one in Lake and Brevard each. These deaths bring the regional toll to 422.

The new fatalities include nine in Polk: men ages 70, 76, 90, 91 and 96 and women ages 70, 73, 81 and 97. Five died in Volusia: ages 53, 69, 80, 80 and 86. In Seminole, two men, both 78, and a 97-year-old woman died; in Orange, a 62-year-old man and a 67-year-old woman died; in Lake, a 64-year-old man; and in Brevard, a 60-year-old man died.

A 74-year-old man was announced Thursday to have died in Seminole, but his case has since been filed under an “unknown county.”

Polk, due to nursinghom­e outbreaks, has the most coronaviru­s fatalities in Central Florida with 138, followed by 80 in Orange, 77 in Volusia, 31 in Osceola, 28 in Brevard, 27 in Lake, 23 in Seminole, and 18 in Sumter.

South Florida, home to 29% of Florida’s population, accounts for about 43% of cases with 108,968 total. That includes 4,689 new cases reported Saturday among Miami-Dade (60,868), Broward (28,253), and Palm Beach (19,847) counties.

South Florida’s reported deaths on Saturday rose by 39 for a total of 2,181, about 52% of the state’s total.

Statewide, the latest positivity rate of new cases for Friday, made available by the Florida Department of Health, was 12.64%.

he state on Saturday afternoon reported that 7,186 people were currently hospitaliz­ed with COVID-19 across Florida. That’s 212 more than the day before.

To date, 18,023 people have been hospitaliz­ed, Florida’s COVID-19 dashboard shows, 421 more than a day earlier — a record jump for one 24-hour period. Friday’s new hospitaliz­ations had also been a record at 435, followed by Thursday’s at 409.

In Central Florida, both Orange and Osceola counties had more people with coronaviru­s in the hospital on Saturday. Orange was at 489, which is 11 more than on Friday. Osceola had 199 people hospitaliz­ed, up 16 from the day before. Seminole and Lake had fewer COVID-19 patients hospitaliz­ed: Seminole was at 155, down nine from Friday. Lake was at 121, down three people from the day before.

The state data for COVID-19 patients, which only started being released on Friday, does not show how many people are in general hospital beds or intensive care units.

Over 2.4 million people have been tested in Florida, with 53,818 more tests reported Saturday compared with the previous day.

The virus has infected over 12.5 million people and has killed over 561,000 worldwide, according to the Johns Hopkins University & Medicine Coronaviru­s Resource Center. In the U.S., over 3.1 million people have been infected and over 134,000 killed.
