Man found dead in submerged car

A DeLand man was found dead Saturday in his car, which was almost fully submerged in a ditch. Nicholas Webb, 26, was found in a 1997 Toyota, Florida Highway Patrol Sgt. Kim Montes said. A passerby spotted the car in a ditch full of water off New York Avenue in DeLand about 1 p.m., Montes said. Troopers do not know exactly how long the car had been in the water, but believe the crash happened overnight, Montes said. Investigators said Webb was possibly driving west on New York Avenue when he lost control of the Toyota, which flipped and landed in the ditch.
