Constitution review applicants sought

-

Supreme Court Chief Justice Jorge Labarga and Senate leaders are seeking applicants for spots on the Constitution Revision Commission, which meets every 20 years to recommend changes to the Florida Constitution. Labarga, who will make three appointments to the commission, said Monday he would accept resumes from applicants until Dec. 31. Senate President Andy Gardiner, R-Orlando, and incoming President Joe Negron, R-Stuart, sent a memo to other senators Friday that provided details about how residents can apply for positions on the commission. The Senate president and House speaker will each appoint nine members of the 37-person commission, while Gov. Rick Scott will appoint 15. Scott said appointments will be made by March 6. The commission likely will spend months considering potential Constitution changes, with final proposals going on the 2018 ballot.
