Lake schools will reopen Tuesday

Orlando Sentinel - - HURRICANE IRMA - Leslie Postal

Students in Lake County public schools will return to class Tuesday, while school staff will return Monday. In other Central Florida districts, including Orange, Seminole, Osceola, Brevard, Polk and Volusia, classes will resume Monday, according to the Florida Department of Education. Public schools have been closed all week after Hurricane Irma pummeled the region Sunday and Monday. Lake School Board member Bill Mathias detailed his district’s plans in a Facebook post Thursday. Lake still has some schools without power, he said, while others need leaky roofs and broken windows repaired or debris cleared from school grounds. Mathias said he hoped Gov. Rick Scott would waive the requirement to replace the lost days. If not, he said, the district will survey parents and employees about the best way to replace that lost instructional time. “Thank you for your continued patience during this challenging time,” Mathias wrote.
