Mildred J. Sterner
Millie (Mildred J) Sterner, of Sanford Florida passed away on January 9, 2021. Millie was born March 11, 1947 in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. She was proceeded in death by her mother Mildred Linker and her father William Walton as well as several aunts and uncles.
Millie is survived by her husband of 54 years, Barry Sterner. She is also survived by a son Kenneth Sterner (Lisa) and grandchildren, Chad, Amanda, Jayson, and Gabriel Sterner. Millie is also survived by those she considered daughters, LaGinna Morris (Angie), Laura Hodgman, and Priscilla Harvill. Millie also left behind two sisters, Charlene Yurksza (Joseph) and Denise DeLong (Larry) along with countless nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Millie and Barry were married in August 1966 and moved with her family to Sanford in 1968. After graduating from beauty school, she worked at Avant’s Salon. She went on to become the owner of the salon for many years where she made lasting friendships with those who walked through the door. In 2004, at age 57, Millie graduated from University of Central Florida with a teaching degree. The children she taught filled her heart with joy and she loved each of them as her own. Millie was very involved in church where she played the organ and sang. She took pride in her church community and considered them her family. Along with her husband Barry, she was also a foster parent, welcoming numerous children into their home throughout the years. It did not matter if a child was born from her womb or her heart, she showed them love beyond measure. Anyone who ever had any interaction with Millie could feel her love right away. She was always giving of herself and had a way of making others feel special. She often greeted you with a smile that was a mile wide and full of joy. Whether you knew her as Millie, Mom, Memaw, Aunt Millie, Racheal, Mrs. Sterner, or any other name, you knew for sure that you were loved. One of life’s greatest accomplishment’s is to be loved by many, but Millie went far beyond that when she left this world knowing that she was loved by SO many.
She will be greatly missed.
