NPC bikini com­peti­tor Bri­ana Owen found her pas­sion in healthy liv­ing.

When 23-year-old Bri­ana Owen was fin­ish­ing her busi­ness law de­gree at Ari­zona State Univer­sity in 2013, her health wasn’t her pri­or­ity. “I wasn’t in the best shape and re­mem­ber at one point feel­ing lost and con­fused about what I needed to do to turn that around,” she says.

It wasn’t un­til she did her first NPC com­pe­ti­tion that she learned that there are no quick fixes or mir­a­cle di­ets that would make long-term changes to her body. In­stead, she dis­cov­ered that a shift in her mind­set and life­style choices would make the dif­fer­ence and that good nu­tri­tion had the big­gest im­pact on her life. “Be­ing con­sis­tent with my nu­tri­tion is im­por­tant to me. I am a big ad­vo­cate of prop­erly fu­el­ing your body so you can get the most out of your workouts,” she says. “I fol­low a flex­i­ble di­et­ing phi­los­o­phy that gives me the free­dom to get cre­ative with my meals so I don’t get bored eat­ing the same thing.” Owen eats nu­tri­ent-dense food and al­lows for the oc­ca­sional treat. “Adopt­ing this life­style has en­abled me to stay on track, even with a busy sched­ule,” she says.
