Thompson still not doing enough

Packer Plus - - Fan Mail | Lineup -

My beloved fellow fans. Complaining about Thompson does no good. It’s just a matter of time before he’s gone. I’d like a chance to point out why and suggest what we can do.

Let’s face it, Thompson sits there in his autistic stupor, totally convinced nobody has the answers but him. A man far more intelligent than I once said, “Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results” is insane.

These are the facts. The Packers no longer instill fear in any team, home or away. Why? Because Thompson’s draft can’t keep up with the needs. Several have gotten hurt, retired or left, or just aren’t very good.

Since we won our last Super Bowl, our team has very slowly declined. Our quality depth is all but gone, and we had to shift players like Matthews to cover glaring deficits. Now we’re weakened in two positions.

On defense, we do not have the personnel or speed to put pressure on any good team’s quarterback. We need some defensive linemen that can move, collapse the pocket and get after them.

This year will be worse because we don’t have any speed at middle linebacker either. Barrington is too slow and Ryan needs more experience.

The Bears, through free agency, have picked up two good inside linebackers that would have helped us ALOT. Thompson didn’t even try.

By the time we draft, the few good college ILBs will probably be gone. Our front seven just aren’t good enough to compete for a Super Bowl. If our D’backs had some help and pressure, we’d probably have a boatload more turnovers and interceptions.

I’ve saved the offense for last, but they are not the best. Our offense is a disgrace, period.

Who besides Aaron

Rodgers has anybody in the whole league worried? Janis might. He’s big, fast and catches anything thrown anywhere near him. No, we can’t play him. We’ve got Adams with fair speed who proved to me he can’t catch a pass with two catcher’s mitts superglued to his hands and sprayed with a lot of stickum.

Cobb is quick, but not fast. He was not a great receiver in college. I know this because I live in Tennessee and watched him play at Kentucky. He can’t catch either. He’s a little dude that’s going to get hurt and drops way too many passes to be a starter anywhere.

Jones has good hands, but no speed. He’d be a good third or fourth receiver.

Our tight ends are BLEEP! There is very little quality at tight end coming out this year. There is a tight end from Mooncleats U. that’s a hundredth of a second slower than Richard Rodgers. Thompson is probably drooling over that.

How about our line? They could be good when healthy. They ALL got hurt last season. Often when these big boys start getting banged up they have trouble staying healthy. Where’s the depth? Only Tretter. Oh well, I’m sure Thompson will restock with some talent and speed-challenged draftees — like Lacy!

Without an owner, I don’t know who to contact to beg for some very needed changes. If you do, please, PLEASE contact them. I’m too damn old to sit through a rerun of the 70s, 80s and early 90s again.

A displaced Milwaukee native and lifelong PACKERS fan, Ric Hennig Cleveland, Tenn.
