Park tiki hut fire in­ves­ti­gated

The Palm Beach Fire Mar­shal is in­ves­ti­gat­ing a blaze that torched a tiki hut May 11 at Phipps Ocean Park.

A 911 caller re­ported the blaze at 8:53 p.m. at the park, 2201 S. Ocean Blvd., ac­cord­ing to Fire-Res­cue Divi­sion Chief Sean Baker. The tiki huts sit atop a hill just be­hind Fire Sta­tion 3.

Baker said fire­fight­ers ar­rived at the scene three min­utes af­ter it was called in. The blaze was ex­tin­guished at 9:05 p.m.

No one was in­jured in the in­ci­dent, and the fire’s cause is un­known, ac­cord­ing to Baker.

When asked if the in­ci­dent was sus­pi­cious or if in­ves­ti­ga­tors had rea­son to sus­pect ar­son, Baker re­sponded, “I don’t know that we want to go down that road.”
