Park tiki hut fire investigated
The Palm Beach Fire Marshal is investigating a blaze that torched a tiki hut May 11 at Phipps Ocean Park.
A 911 caller reported the blaze at 8:53 p.m. at the park, 2201 S. Ocean Blvd., according to Fire-Rescue Division Chief Sean Baker. The tiki huts sit atop a hill just behind Fire Station 3.
Baker said firefighters arrived at the scene three minutes after it was called in. The blaze was extinguished at 9:05 p.m.
No one was injured in the incident, and the fire’s cause is unknown, according to Baker.
When asked if the incident was suspicious or if investigators had reason to suspect arson, Baker responded, “I don’t know that we want to go down that road.”
