Imagine a graduation ceremony in the president’s gilded and frescoed home, with dinner and dancing — but no sweltering caps and gowns. That’s how it was for the kids of the Palm Beach Junior Assembly and Cotillion, which closed the 2016-17 season with its annual Red Carpet Dinner Dance.

The event took place May 10 at The Mar-a-Lago Club.

The Junior Assembly offers dance instruction and etiquette classes during the academic year to students from kindergarten through fifth grade. The Cotillion, originally a program of the Junior League, does the same for students in grades six through eight. The two programs merged three years ago.

The 2017-18 season, which marks the assembly’s 70th year, will begin Oct. 11 with a Halloween-theme Masquerade Ball at the Beach Club.
