Ethel Of­fit Ja­cobs, of Palm Beach, died Thurs­day, May 18, 2017. She was 98.

She was born in Durham, N.C., on May 17, 1919, the el­dest of four chil­dren of Lena and Mor­ris A. Of­fit.

She was raised in Bal­ti­more, at­tended Goucher Col­lege and mar- ried Nathaniel Ja­cobs. The cou­ple moved to Palm Beach in the mid-1970s. She resided there un­til her death.

Mrs. Ja­cobs was a do­cent and greeter at the Nor­ton Mu­seum of Art and served as jour­nal chair­woman, board mem­ber and pres­i­dent of the Jewish Guild for the Blind.

She also served on the membership com­mit­tee of the Alexan­der W. Drey­foos School of the Arts Foun­da­tion Guild and on the board of Alpert Jewish Fam­ily and Chil­dren’s Ser­vices.

Sur­vivors in­clude sons Alan Ja­cobs and Carl (Janet) Ja­cobs, brother Si­mon B. Of­fit (Peter Cowan) and grand­chil­dren Jar­rod Ja­cobs and Robyn Ja­cobs (Dou­glas van Or­sow). She also is sur­vived by nieces, neph­ews and cousins.

In ad­di­tion to her hus­band, Mrs. Ja­cobs was pre­de­ceased by a brother, Howard Of­fit.

A fu­neral for her was held May 21 in Bal­ti­more.
