Town pushes final budget hearing to Wednesday

Palm Beach Daily News - - SOCIAL CALENDAR -

The date of the second and final public hearing on the town’s budget and property tax rate for 201718 has been changed to 5:01 p.m. Wednesday in the Town Council chambers at Town Hall.

Last week, the council changed the date from Oct. 3 to Oct. 4 because of a scheduling conflict.

The proposed $81.5 million budget is 6.1 percent larger than this year’s $76.8 million budget and includes a 5.4 percent property tax hike. Major expenses include $5.4 million to chip away at a long-term shortfall in employee pensions.

The budget takes effect today.

State law requires two public hearings before local budgets and tax rates are approved. The hearings are normally held in September, but the second hearing was originally rescheduled to Oct. 3 because of Hurricane Irma.
