Wet weather to per­sist thanks to trop­i­cal wave

Rain chances in­crease for South Florida to­day as a push of mois­ture fol­lowed by a trop­i­cal wave prom­ises wet days through Saturday at least.

The National Weather Ser­vice in Mi­ami said Palm Beach County could be­gin see­ing show­ers and iso­lated thun­der­storms early to­day from the rush of sog­gi­ness that will move through the area Fri­day. Thun­der­storms are ex­pected to be strong­est dur­ing the af­ter­noons to­day and Fri­day.

But fol­low­ing that mois­ture is a trop­i­cal wave that will close in on South Florida from the Ba­hamas Saturday. While trop­i­cal waves can be the seeds for trop­i­cal cy­clones, about 60 track west from Africa each year and only 20 per­cent typ­i­cally de­velop into trop­i­cal storms or hur­ri­canes, ac­cord­ing to the National Hur­ri­cane
