Mar-a-Lago charity debate has gone to the dogs

Big Dog Ranch Rescue addresses return to Trump’s club with new canine mascot.

Palm Beach Daily News - - FRONT PAGE -

So the folks at Big Dog Ranch Rescue decided to address their return to The Mara-Lago Club with a new spokesman: an eyeglass wearing Weimaraner.

The canine “author” of an advertisement that appeared in last Sunday’s Shiny Sheet opined that politics shouldn’t be an issue, seeing as “some dogs are pro-mailmen and some aren’t;” denies “lifting my leg on a serious issue;” and urged focusing on things that matter, such as tummy rubs.

We see the clever hand of smartypants publicist Chase Scott at work here. Just saying.

As a matter of fact, those might be his eyeglasses the pooch is wearing.

No grinch — Coming soon to a holiday mailbox near you: POTUS himself.

Not Donald Trump himself, actually, but his voice, and his smiling face wearing a Santa hat, standing behind a banner reading “Make Christmas Great Again.”

Open the card, and the script reads “Christmas is not Fake News. Merry Christmas!” as the president’s own voice, in a snippet lifted from a campaign speech, says “We are going to start saying ‘Merry Christmas’ again. Merry Christmas.”

So, the president’s image, the president’s voice, his campaign speech and a twist borrowed from his campaign slogan. One might think this is like waving a red Santa hat in front of a litigious bull, but our lawyer friends — the ones who aren’t in prison — say that all is public domain.
