Stewart Colwell Broberg
Stewart Colwell Broberg, of Palm Beach, died Saturday, March 24, 2018. She was 92.
She was born in Chicago and raised in Urbana, Ohio, by her parents Donald Colwell and Loretta Johnson Colwell.
She was an avid horse lover in her youth and attended Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri.
She married Gustave T. Broberg Jr. in 1946 and moved to Palm Beach in 1950. Through the years she was involved with Opportunity Inc., the United Way and The Episcopal Church of Bethesda-by-the-Sea bookshop. She was an active artist; one of her works depicting Chief Justice John Marshall is on display at the Virginia Historical Society in Richmond. She also was a member of the Sailfish Club.
Mrs. Broberg is survived by a son, Peter Broberg and wife Beverly, of Palm Beach; a daughter, Kristin B. Ford and husband Tom, of Dallas; two grandchildren, Elizabeth Broberg and Erik Broberg, both of Palm Beach; a sister-in-law, Lois H. Colwell of Dacula, Georgia.; a niece, Carolyn Colwell Rivers and husband Ben of Dacula; a nephew, James Colwell, of Concord, North Carolina; and a cousin, Paul “Pete” Dye and wife Alice, of Gulfstream. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her brother, Donald Colwell, Jr., and her grandson, Austin Ford.
The family is planning a private memorial service, and her ashes will be inurned in the Columbarium at The Episcopal Church of Bethesda-by-the-Sea.
