Palm Beach Daily News - - TODAY -

restrictions, the lift span for the temporary bridge will be installed, the DOT said.

On Friday through Sunday, the westbound lane on the Southern Boulevard Bridge will close nightly from 9:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. as preparations are made to shift the lanes to the north. Two-way traffic will be maintained by a flag crew, one direction at a time, in the eastbound lane.

The lane closure is not planned during President Donald Trump’s next expected visit. On April 1718, Trump is scheduled to meeting with Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, according to a release from the White House. But while the president is in town, marine security zones are in effect around Mar-a-Lago, so the extended channel closure will be in addition to the usual restrictions.

The temporary bridge being built will connect the town and West Palm Beach while the aging Southern bridge is torn down and replaced with a modern span. The temporary span will open to traffic early this summer and remain in use until the permanent span is completed in early 2021.

The temporary bridge is to cost about $15 million, part of the overall $93 million price tag for the entire replacement project.
