Poised for the Por­tal

Young at heart, fear­less in their con­cepts, and ready to ex­hibit— that de­scribes the par­tic­i­pants in the 2009 Young Na­tives Christ­mas Arts and Crafts Show and Sale, to be held Satur­day and Sun­day, Dec. 12 and 13, in the John Gaw Meem Room at the Palace of the Gover­nors (110Wash­ing­ton Ave.).

These bud­ding artists and ar­ti­sans are the chil­dren and grand­chil­dren of Na­tive artists who are members of the Palace of the Gover­nors Por­tal Pro­gram. Taught tra­di­tions by their el­ders, these chil­dren will present the fruit of their labors in a va­ri­ety of medi­ums, in­clud­ing pot­tery, sto­ry­telling, fetishes, jew­elry, and more. An of­fi­cial rib­bon-cut­ting to cel­e­brate the event will take place Satur­day at 10 a.m., with Pa­tri­cia Ho­dapp, di­rec­tor of the Santa Fe Pub­lic Li­brary, do­ing the hon­ors.

Hours for the event are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days, and ad­mis­sion is free. Call 476-5100 for more in­for­ma­tion.
