Poised for the Portal
Young at heart, fearless in their concepts, and ready to exhibit— that describes the participants in the 2009 Young Natives Christmas Arts and Crafts Show and Sale, to be held Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 12 and 13, in the John Gaw Meem Room at the Palace of the Governors (110Washington Ave.).
These budding artists and artisans are the children and grandchildren of Native artists who are members of the Palace of the Governors Portal Program. Taught traditions by their elders, these children will present the fruit of their labors in a variety of mediums, including pottery, storytelling, fetishes, jewelry, and more. An official ribbon-cutting to celebrate the event will take place Saturday at 10 a.m., with Patricia Hodapp, director of the Santa Fe Public Library, doing the honors.
Hours for the event are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days, and admission is free. Call 476-5100 for more information.
