“I’m gonna jack your car up, baby, take a look under your hood; I want to make sure, little girl, that your motor’s runnin’ good.” The song’s “Fine Cadillac” and it’s sung with bluesy, gutsy élan by Guitar Shorty on We the People. His 2006 album— awarded best contemporary blues album by the Blues Foundation— is full of DavidWilliam “Guitar Shorty” Kearney’s electric guitarin’ and his throaty growl and sweet tremolo.
Now that he’s 70, Guitar Shorty may not be expected to do quite as many somersaults and back flips while playing hard blues as in the past, but we’ll see. The bluesman plays Corazón, 401 S. Guadalupe St., at 10 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 1. Admission is $9; call 983-4559.
