Few forms of music or dance can help facilitate a love connection the way salsa can. There is a component of seduction that weaves its way through the music’s clave beats, dancing piano, and strained horns. The only remedy for such an aural affliction is to hit the dance floor, grab a partner, and work it out like you’re partaking in a trombone-assisted exorcism.
At 9 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 13, The Mambo Room and DJ Avi present the Sweet and Sexy Valentine’s Party at The Lodge at Santa Fe (750 N. St. Francis Drive, 992-5800) — a tantalizing tempest of libido-ramping Latin-dance madness punctuated by the presence of Albuquerque salsamusic mainstays Ivon Ulibarri and Café Mocha.
The 21-and-over performance, which includes between-set spin sessions by local Latin-dance party wizard DJ Avi, is $10 before 10 p.m. and $15 after 10 p.m. Admission includes champagne, chocolates, and door prizes. Love connections are not guaranteed, but they’re much more likely to occur if you show up— rather than sitting on your couch watching Like Water for Chocolate.
