One of the many really neat things about the small town of Madrid — located about 20 minutes south of Santa Fe as the Jeep Wrangler flies — is that it hosts events such as the First Annual Madrid World Music and Dance Festival. This gig runs from noon to 7 p.m. on Sunday, May 30, at the ball park on N.M. 14 in Madrid. Tickets are $10, but it’s free for kids 7 and under. Among the scheduled acts are African drummer Akeem Ayanniyi and his ensemble, Agalu; singer Madi Sato; and the Mambo Fe Dance Company. Organizers Glen Neff (who also performs) and Eliane Allegre urge you to bring folding chairs, and food vendors are on hand to provide fixins for a fee. Call 474-0033 for information.
