One turntable and a microphone
Do you have one of those friends who won’t stop fiddling with the stereo? You know the type: radio dials and iPod skip functions provide them with hours of entertainment while you quietly bite the inside of your lip, and they can yammer for hours about their own music collection, even while you’re trying to listen to yours.
They’re not bad people; they’re just obsessed with music. Because you love (or at least tolerate) them, you should think about taking them to the Ear Salon. At 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 17, The Candyman’s Little Wing music-performance and education space (851 St. Michael’s Drive, 699-5470) invites music lovers and aural obsessives to play DJ for friends and strangers.
Each participating DJ gets up to 12 minutes to play whatever he or she would like, and before or after each set, presenters are encouraged to talk about the music they spin. Usually held on the second Sunday of the month, each salon is presented by a guest host who gets a whopping 30 to 45 minutes to wow you with his or her album collections and musical wisdom. We suggest you stick around, too. You might enjoy yourself. Besides, your pals’ annoying music habits aren’t going to disappear anytime soon. If you can’t beat them, you might as well join them. Drinks and snacks are available; admission is by donation. For more information visit www.candymanlittlewing.com/earsalon.html.
