Renée Zellweger plays Emily, a social worker who meets a young girl (Jodelle Ferland) and has her at “hello.” When she learns that the girl’s parents are trying to kill her, she rescues the kid. But Emily’s “hello” becomes “help!” when she realizes the parents may have had good reason to do away with their daughter. Rated R. 109 minutes. Regal North, Santa Fe; DreamCatcher, Española. (Not reviewed) EASY A There is an undeniable link between the classics and high school. That’s where most of us first read them, and young screenwriters bent on revenge rewrite them as high school comedies. Sometimes it works, but this one pulls up lame. Olive (Emma Stone) allows the lie that she has lost her virginity to circulate and turns false advertising into a cottage industry. Rated PG-13. 93 minutes. Regal North, Santa Fe; DreamCatcher, Española. ( Jonathan Richards) THE DESERT OF FORBIDDEN ART This documentary tells the story of the Nukus museum of Russian avant-garde art in Karakalpakstan (an independent republic of Uzbekistan) and Igor Savitsky, the artist and archaeologist who single-handedly saved the art from the scrapheap of Stalin’s Soviet Union. Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 23 and 24 only. Not rated. 80 minutes. In English and Russian with subtitles. The Screen, Santa Fe. (Douglas Fairfield) DESPICABLE ME An evil genius named Gru (voiced by Steve Carell) plots to steal the moon. He adopts three orphans to help spy on a rival and develops paternal instincts along the way. This animated film feels half-baked in both concept and execution and is littered with lame humor of the “chillax” variety. Rated PG. 95 minutes. Screens in 2-D at Regal North, Santa Fe. (Robert B. Ker) EXIT THROUGH THE GIFT SHOP This is a strange gem of a film. Ostensibly a profile of provocateur artist Banksy, this “prankumentary” shows how over the course of a decade, street art — stenciling, LED art, and sticker bombing in hijacked public spaces — was transformed from an underground artistic pursuit into a highly profitable farce. Rated R. 87 minutes. CCA Cinematheque, Santa Fe. (Casey Sanchez) THE EXPENDABLES Apparently, the testosterone level in Santa Fe is down, because Regal felt the need to bring back this bloody action flick starring
