What dreams may come
If the new Santa Fe University of Art and Design had fallen into a midsummer dream while trying to imagine how to launch the 2010-2011 season of its performing-arts department, it could not have come up with a more spectacular beginning. Under the inspired direction of famed director Jon Jory, the production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream had a higher level of comedic energy than seems possible from a young student cast, producing enough laughs to fill a season’s worth of TV soundtracks. This Shakespearean romp will be followed by three other promising stage offerings. Anyone who snickered at the college’s new name will have to admit that when it comes to dramatic excellence, this could be the start of something big for Santa Fe.
