YOU AGAIN High-school rivalries are renewed for both Marni (Kristen Bell) and her mom (Jamie Lee Curtis) when Marni’s rival Joanna (Odette Yustman) and her passive-aggressive mom (Sigourney Weaver) show up in their lives again. Rated PG. 105 minutes. Regal North, Santa Fe. (Not reviewed) WASTE LAND In Rio de Janeiro at Jardim Gramacho, the world’s largest dump, workers living in a tin-roof shantytown spend their days wading through waste heaps and building an unlikely community of mutual support and admiration. Into this surreal world comes Vik Muñiz, an artist who has concocted photographic portraits from cotton tufts, sugar, dirt, and chocolate sauce. He makes friends with the Gramacho catadores, persuading them to make soccer-field-size portraits of themselves using the garbage that they spend their days sorting. The art is top-notch and the film is a loving portrait. Not rated. 98 minutes. In English and Portuguese with subtitles. CCA Cinematheque, Santa Fe. (Casey Sanchez) Douglas nicely reprises his Oscar-winning role; the fine cast includes Shia LaBeouf, Carey Mulligan, Frank Langella, and Josh Brolin; but the script doesn’t pack enough punch where it counts in the dramatics of the financial meltdown, and it doesn’t give Gekko enough solid material to restore his former reptilian luster. Rated PG-13. 127 minutes. Regal North, Santa Fe. (Jonathan Richards) YOU WILL MEET A TALL DARK STRANGER Woody Allen’s annual movie isn’t a barrel of laughs this time, but it’s reliably amusing, if dark and dyspeptic. Life is meaningless, and all our struggling just drives us deeper into the ditch. Fortunetelling is hokum but no more so than anything else. A distinguished cast led by Anthony Hopkins, Gemma Jones, Naomi Watts, and Josh Brolin keeps this hopping. Rated R. 98 minutes. Regal DeVargas, Santa Fe. (Jonathan Richards)
