Little town of Beats-lehem
it’s all about the DJs, mixmasters, turntablists, and rhymespitters. But before we get to that, here’s a public service announcement: there’s absolutely no excuse to get behind the wheel if you’ve been drinking, and the
is driving that point — and you — home.
Capitol City Cab and Santa Fe County once again offer cheap rides to folks (adults only) from their house to any location and from any location to their house (not from watering hole to watering hole) within Santa Fe County.
From 5:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. Friday and Saturday, Dec. 24 and 25, and Friday, Dec. 31, the CADDy ride is a measly $5 for one or two people, and $10 for three or more riders (tips are also appreciated). If your destination or pick-up point is outside the city limits, regular cab fares apply for that extra mileage. If you need to, call to arrange a CADDy ride. And if it takes a little while, quit your bitchin’. You’re the one who’s too drunk to drive.
In light of recent tragedies on the road allegedly involving drunk drivers, my heartfelt thanks go out to those servers and bouncers who try to make the roads safer by going that extra mile. You know who you are. And you also know that the law places too much burden on you, making it more difficult for drunk drivers to be held truly accountable for their reckless actions. While I’m not sure the law will ever change, one thing certainly should: your pay scale. You deserve a raise. Now, on to the beats!
To get you into the holiday spirit before you head out for a night of celebration, click over to www.soundcloud.com and search for DJ Melanie Moore. At the bottom of her page is a collection of “Mixx Fixx” mixes, two of which are eclectic holiday blends in collaboration with DJ Phi recorded live earlier this month at KSFR-FM 101.1’s studios in Santa Fe. Chill, house, techno, world beat, you name it: Moore and Phi have it all wrapped up in a pretty audible bow.
For something a little more oddball — and R-rated — head to www.soundsofthecityofdis.blogspot.com and scroll to the bottom for a link to a 2008 podcast by DJ (or would he be a PJ?) M-A, aka “That Weird White Guy.” The combination of DJ BC’s “You Shook Me All Noel,” Wille Nelson’s & Stephen Colbert’s “Little Dealer Boy,” and Mr. Hooper pondering what to give Ernie for Christmas might make your head explode, but it’s well worth the eggnog-drenched brain spatter.
Now you’re ready to paint the town a hideous combination of red and green. Hit inside Evangelo’s (200 W. San Francisco St., 982-9014) at
for a set of house music by (call for cover). At the same evening, (401 S. Guadalupe St., 983-4559) presents featuring hip-hop, R & B, and house with
($5 cover). At Corazón hosts a that promises to “get the bad taste of family out of your mouth.” Local instrumental math rockers perform, melodic pop-punk outfit reunites for a set, and East Coast — by way of Santa Fe — drops some knowledge before the New Year (check SamWise out at samwise.bandcamp.com or his Myspace page). There’s a $3 cover for this 21-and-older show.
