TRON: LEGACY As with its predecessor, the best things about this sequel to the 1982 film TRON are computer-generated. Sam Flynn (Garrett Hedlund) hasn’t seen his genius father ( Jeff Bridges) since 1989. One night, he gets zapped into a digital world called the Grid, where he finds both his father and dad’s evil doppelgänger. You’ll have fun if you just enjoy the dazzling digital ride. Rated PG-13. 126 minutes. Screens in 2-D only at Regal North, Santa Fe. (Laurel Gladden) TRUE GRIT Like the 1969 film version of Charles Portis’ novel, this is a good but not quite great movie. Jeff Bridges plays Rooster Cogburn as a fallen hero who would rather snort than shoot. Hailee Steinfeld gives us a Mattie Ross who is a child warrior on the vengeance trail, and Matt Damon is just right as the Texas Ranger out to prove he can always get his man. This is a Coen brothers movie, so expect dark humor, ironic twists, and sudden bloodshed. Nominated for 10 Academy Awards, including for best picture and director. Rated PG-13. 128 minutes. Regal Stadium 14, Santa Fe; DreamCatcher, Española; Storyteller, Taos. (Robert Nott) THE WAY BACK Based on a supposedly true story, this often plodding film, directed by Peter Weir, is a by-the-numbers prison breakout tale invigorated by some stunning cinematography, dark humor, and a lively performance by Colin Farrell as a murderous convict. The picture features some striking, silent sequences of the escapees’ long trek from a Siberian gulag to safety, but when the loosely defined characters finally break into monologues depicting their background story, you might wish you were in another theater. Rated PG-13. 132 minutes. CCA Cinematheque, Santa Fe. (Robert Nott)
