The Short Order
Bumble Bee’s Baja Grill on Cerrillos Road has undergone a slight burger-chain face-lift and a major menu overhaul — and it now goes by the name Bumble Bee’s Burgers. The new incarnation may disappoint devotees of Baja Grill’s former self-described “fun, fresh, flavorful, friendly, fast-casual” and relatively healthy Mexican fare, which is still served at the downtown Bumble Bee’s. Certified Angus beef burgers are serviceable, if a bit soggy. Fries and onion rings are freezer-to-fryer (although house-made chips and a few other fried goodies are tasty), and above-margin fast-food prices don’t accurately reflect the quality — and in some instances the per-serving quantity — of the food. Recommended: bacon-cheese hot dog, house-made potato chips, and the “Bee Sting,”
a side of fried jalapeño and onion spears.
