Director’s cut: Nine

Pasatiempo - - Random Acts -

Inspired by Federico Fellini’s 8½ , Maury Yeston and Arthur Kopit’s 1982 musical Nine may have been an attempt to one-up (or half-up) the great filmmaker. It tells a similar story about an Italian director — Guido Anselmi in the original, Guido Contini in the spinoff — facing both artistic and midlife crises, except Yeston and Kopit’s version includes a lot more song and dance. Students from Santa Fe University of Art and Design present selections from the musical to wrap up the performing arts department’s fall season. The show is directed by Alaina Warren Zachary, with Shannon Elliott as dance director, and takes place at 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 12, and at 2 and 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 13. The performances are free, although tickets are required; call 505-473-6439 to reserve a place. SFUAD’s Greer Garson Theatre is at 1600 St. Michael’s Drive. — Loren Bienvenu
