Maestro of time and space: Leon Russell

Pasatiempo - - RANDOM ACTS -

Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Leon Russell may not have a gambling problem, but he is spending a good bit of this spring in casinos. His extended tour includes 18 stops in April alone, many of them at gaming establishments — including Buffalo Thunder Resort & Casino. Russell got his start as a session musician in the 1960s and worked with the storied Wrecking Crew, a group of Los Angeles studio players behind many of the day’s biggest hits. The pianist and twangy singer’s 1970 self-titled debut album contained the hit “A Song for You,” paving the way for a solo career that has been vibrant ever since. Russell plays the Shadeh Nightclub (20 Buffalo Thunder Trail, off US 84/285) at 8 p.m. Thursday, April 2. Tickets, $20, are available at www.tickets.com. — Loren Bienvenu
