Music of the day: St. John’s College
The Great Hall of the Peterson Student Center at St. John’s College (1160 Camino de Cruz Blanca) is going to be a hive of activity on Friday, April 3. At 12:10 p.m., tutor emeritus and musician-in-residence Peter Pesic continues his lunchtime recital series by playing several monuments of the piano repertoire: Debussy’s Images, Book II , and Chopin’s Scherzo in C-sharp minor and Impromptu in G-flat major. Then at 7:30 that evening, tenor James Onstad and pianist Nathan Salazar offer a concert of songs by Schubert, Rachmaninoff, Britten, John Musto, and other composers, mostly relating to the theme of springtime. Onstad, a lyric tenor who is a Santa Fe native and a Harvard graduate, includes among his recent engagements numerous appearances as a soloist with the esteemed Cincinnati Bach Ensemble and ongoing performances in the chorus of the noted ensemble Boston Baroque. Both events are free. For information, call 505-984-6000. — J.M.K.
