Trum­peter Bobby Shew leads a combo at 7 p.m. on Fri­day, April 24, in the lat­est con­cert spon­sored by the Santa Fe Mu­sic Col­lec­tive. Shew is a leg­end of the jazz genre who re­turned to Al­bu­querque, the place of his birth, a few years ago af­ter decades of work­ing in Los An­ge­les and Las Ve­gas. He’s a vet­eran of the Toshiko AkiyoshiLew Tabackin Big Band and of col­lab­o­ra­tions with Buddy Rich, Woody Her­man, Tommy Dorsey, Di­nah Shore, May­nard Fer­gu­son, Car­men McRae, Ho­race Sil­ver, and dozens of other stars. No End (1983) and Heavy­weights (1995) are among his stand­out al­bums as a leader.
