New Mexico Museum of Art, 107 W. Palace Ave., 505-476-5072 The museum presents a survey of works by photographer Gay Block in To Feel Less Alone: Gay Block, A Portrait. The show includes more than 40 images, shot between 1975 and 2012, that explore themes of gender, class, religion, family, and sexual orientation. Photographs are culled from Block’s series Miami, South Beach, portraits of elderly Jewish residents in South Florida; Camp Girls, portraits of adolescent girls experiencing the freedoms of summer; and Rescuers: Portraits of Moral Courage in the Holocaust. Also on view is Fire Season, the last in the museum’s yearlong Focus on Photography exhibit cycle. Fire Season is a group show that includes work by Patricia Galagan, Philip Metcalf, and Larry Schwarm. Both exhibits open on Friday, May 1, with a 5:30 p.m. reception. There is no charge for admission to the reception, after which entrance is by museum admission.
