Pasatiempo - - HAPPENING IN MAY - Heather Roan Robbins www.roanrob

In this lusty month of May, under the Taurus sun we can indulge all our senses. Taurus encourages us to tend to all things earthy — to walk outside, to garden — and to lend a helping hand to those in need.

Today is May Day, a celebration of life’s natural bounty and of the workers of the world, their muscle and grit. Later in the week, as we observe Star Wars Day (May the 4th be with you) and Cinco de Mayo, we enjoy the energy of Taurus.

The shadow side of Taurus — possessiveness and territoriality — emerge under a full moon in Scorpio this weekend, one of the most tempestuous and broody moons of the year. This moon also brings a certain clear-sightedness: We can look at the worst, uncovering our deepest fears.

This year’s more disruptive astrological aspects — in which Uranus squares Pluto and Saturn squares Neptune — are past their peak but still work in our culture and on earth’s tectonic plates to create a politically and geologically active year.

Under this full moon come fresh revelations about what’s needed and how we can help, using practical Taurus as our guide. Midweek, the sun trines empowering Pluto, ushering in an industrious time to build and organize.

Friday, May 1: On this romantic and sensual day, we work from the heart. Afternoon brings our thoughts to May Day — to fairness and to equitable work — as the Libra moon squares Pluto and opposes Uranus. Saturday, May 2: This morning may be pleasant, sociable, and even a bit sybaritic. The day meanders, letting us putter around our gardens and around questions of social justice and community. The mood grows sharper — suddenly less forgiving and more demanding — as the moon waxes into Scorpio tonight. Sunday, May 3: Our subconscious minds are up and running under a full moon in Scorpio. If we see a wild look in people’s eyes, back off until they calm down. It’s a good day to meditate so we can get to the roots of weedy problems: Just don’t weed out what we love. Monday, May 4: An emotional high tide can get our hackles up if we feel that others aren’t pulling their own weight or are stepping on our toes. It may be tempting to feel resentful, but that won’t further progress — work toward solutions instead. Defuse harsh situations with compassion, humor, and respect. Early evening gets feisty as the intense Scorpio moon opposes Mars. Later, the evening mellows out: Kiss and make up. Tuesday, May 5: We can define our responsibilities and how we can help others under unusual conditions, as the moon and Saturn conjunct in Sagittarius. The planets lend us the resilience to do this. If there’s a communication glitch this afternoon, look to underlying worry or confusion to explain it. Wednesday, May 6: As the sun trines Pluto, we watch where we allocate our resources to better understand ourselves and others. We have an opportunity to build or break down trust in the process. Time spent with children and animals can remind us to take ourselves less seriously. Thursday, May 7: Relationships need attention, but not obsession this morning. We feel love and attachment run between our hearts and those of others as Venus enters Cancer. Let go of what isn’t honest: What we give freely is enough.
