From the academy: ballet and folk­lórico

More than 350 dancers take part in the an­nual recital of the School of Aspen Santa Fe Ballet and Aspen Santa Fe Ballet Folk­lórico in two shows at the Lensic Per­form­ing Arts Cen­ter (211 W. San Fran­cisco St.), at 1 and 6 p.m. on Sun­day, May 31. As­pir­ing bal­leri­nas as young as three years old and more-ex­pe­ri­enced stu­dents up to age eigh­teen per­form orig­i­nal chore­og­ra­phy by mem­bers of the school’s fac­ulty set to mu­sic by Co­p­land, Glazunov, De­libes, and Minkus. Stu­dents in the folk­lórico pro­gram per­form tra­di­tional dances from Nuevo León, Jalisco, Chi­huahua, and Yu­catán. Some of th­ese stu­dents take classes at the ballet school, but many are in­volved through a part­ner­ship with the Santa Fe Public Schools.
