The Short Order
Tia Sophia’s, the legendary family-owned restaurant just a few blocks from the Plaza, celebrated its 40th anniversary earlier this month. It’s been serving breakfast classics and traditional New Mexico fare to locals and tourists since the 1970s, and while the food isn’t especially distinctive, it’s all done really well. The ambience is relaxed, cozy, and homey, and staff members are friendly in a familial kind of way, though sometimes they’re businesslike in the interest of speed and efficiency. Recommended: breakfast quesadilla, smothered breakfast burrito, bowl of chile, huevos rancheros, and tostada with chicken.
