June jazz: the Bert Dalton Trio
The Bert Dalton Trio plays Collected Works Bookstore (202 Galisteo St., 505-988-4226), on Friday, June 5. It’s the second in a series of four jazz events designed as fundraisers for Santa Fe’s public radio station, KSFR-FM. Dalton is a pianist whose mentors include Bill Evans, Oscar Peterson, and Ahmad Jamal. The highlights in his discography are Midnight Coffee, a 2001 recording with John Clayton and Jeff Hamilton; 2006’s Got Jazz, which he dedicated to children; and The Brazil Project (2011). On June 5, he and percussionist John Bartlit and bassist Andy Zadrozny offer both jazz standards and original compositions. The next two gigs are J.Q. Whitcomb’s What the What band on July 3 and the Arlen Asher-John Trentacosta Quartet on Aug. 7. The concerts at Collected Works, which is donating the performance space, happen from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $15; call KSFR at 505-428-1527 for information.
