Sounds of the solstice: Make Music Santa Fe
More than a dozen local bands, duos, and solo acts spread musical joy on Sunday, June 21, from 2:30 to 10 p.m. at the Railyard Plaza (corner of Paseo de Peralta and Guadalupe Street). The annual Make Music Santa Fe event is one of more than 400 such festivals held worldwide on the summer solstice. Lumbre del Sol, Stephanie Hatfield, Nacha Mendez, Joe West & the Santa Fe Revue, Swing Soleil, and Paula Rhae McDonald are among the highlights of this free event. Also on the schedule are siblings Eliza and Tony Gilkyson, performing both solo and together; several teenage music acts, including Miriam Lavanah Kass, the jazz band Lawn Chairs, and Mariachi Trio Juvenil; and eleven-year-old Madelyn Kingston. Make Music Santa Fe is presented by the Santa Fe Music Alliance, a nonprofit organization made up of musicians and music-industry professionals. Alliance president (and veteran Santa Fe space-age chanteuse) Busy McCarroll said Rick Wiegers is the MC for the music-filled day, which also boasts food offerings from local vendors.
