Bri­tish al­ter­na­tive-rock band World Party, with front­man Karl Wallinger, per­forms at Sky­light (139 W. San Fran­cisco St.) on Tues­day, June 23, at 7:30 p.m. Wallinger started play­ing mu­sic in the 1970s, with Quasi­modo, and in the 1980s he was key­boardist for the Water­boys be­fore leav­ing to form World Party, a sort of boppy, New Wave ver­sion of the Rolling Stones. They recorded sev­eral al­bums, in­clud­ing the break­through hit-mak­ers Good­bye Jumbo (1990) and

Bang! (1993). Wallinger suf­fered an aneurysm in 2001 that took him out of com­mis­sion for a few years, but he’s been tour­ing with World Party and re­leas­ing the group’s back cat­a­log since 2005. Open­ing for World Party is Ge­or­gia roots-rocker Gabriel Kel­ley, who is tour­ing for the re­lease of his sec­ond al­bum, Lighter Shades of Blue.
