Pasatiempo - - MOVING IMAGES -

Nostalgia glows with the unsentimental light of an all-night party at dawn in this honest and affectionate look at France’s house-music scene in the 1990s. Co-writer and director Mia Hansen-Løve takes the experiences of her DJ brother, Sven (who co-wrote the script), and creates a fictional account of the ups and down of his romantic and career lives. It all takes place within the ascendance of dance music in France and naturally, the soundtrack is sensational. The most notable artists to rise from this scene are Grammywinning duo Daft Punk, portrayed in this film not as robots but as regular guys who remained somewhat humble as their careers skyrocketed. Rated R. 131 minutes. In French with subtitles. Regal DeVargas. (Robert Ker)
