Falling into places: We Are the West

Pasatiempo - - RANDOM ACTS -

We Are the West has earned a reputation in its home base of Los Angeles for performing gentle experimental folk music in unlikely venues, including abandoned convents, barns, and shipping containers. The group even holds a monthly concert series in an underground parking garage, all in an effort to transform everyday spaces into “magical musical worlds,” said band member Brett Hool. Hool’s parents live in Santa Fe, and for years he has had his eye on the Scottish Rite Center (463 Paseo de Peralta), which houses a beautiful theater with handpainted backdrops. Hool fulfills a dream by playing with We Are the West — now on tour in support of its album Regards — at the center of a triple bill with Todd and the Fox and Cloacas on Friday, July 17. Doors open at 8 p.m., and the music begins at 8:30 p.m. Admission is by a suggested donation of $10 to $20 at the door. — Jennifer Levin
