These palos are happy, for a bunch of people at a wedding. It’s about happiness, about love and beauty. One of the letras goes, ‘I live on love, but for me your kisses are like the fountain of my thoughts ... I want you to take me with you because I find myself far away from your love.’ ”

Chuscales is another artist Benítez recruited from Spain. He grew up in a family with Gypsy heritage, and remembers watching family members and friends dancing in the caves of Sacromonte. As music director for Juan Siddi, he expanded the traditional guitar/singer/dancer model by incorporating a pianist and cellist. Of all the groups on stage in Santa Fe, this is the most eclectic, musically speaking. In his 2015 repertoire, an introduction for Siddi’s soleá includes an ode to Satie’s Gymnopédies.
