Around the horn: Zongo Junction
Zongo Junction, an 11-piece Afrobeat ensemble from Brooklyn, will earn your respect with its impressive horn section when it plays the Santa Fe Bandstand on the Plaza on Tuesday, July 28, from 7:15 to 8:45 p.m. Playing music that’s eclectic and danceable, with percussive beats that lift the spirit, Zongo Junction was formed in 2009 by Charles Ferguson after he returned from travels in Ghana. The group released its first album, Thieves, in 2010. No Discount, its third album, was released in 2014 by Electric Cowbell Records. Members of the band have performed and recorded with TV on the Radio and The Walkmen, among other artists. Bandstand concerts are free. — J.L.
