Cheryl Ann Thomas: Gnarl
2014, porcelain Santa Fe Clay, 545 Camino de la Familia, 505-984-1122 A show of works by ceramists Phyllis Kudder Sullivan and Cheryl Ann Thomas opens on Friday, July 24, with a 5 p.m. reception. Kudder Sullivan creates her sculptural forms using a technique of weaving coils of clay into vessel forms and other shapes that resemble closed loops with no beginning or endpoint. Thomas also constructs objects from coiled clay. The thin walls of her pieces collapse during the firing process, resulting in unique, spontaneous works in porcelain.
