Dancing in the dark: Night Wave

Pasatiempo - - RANDOM ACTS -

Santa Fe’s supposedly sleepy nightlife scene gets an energy boost this weekend with Night Wave, presented by local entertainment businesses and coordinated by the Meow Wolf art collective. Night Wave’s mission is to highlight all there already is to do after dark in the City Different, as well as the idea that with a little collaboration between bars and concert venues, Santa Fe could turn into one of those towns where people roam bar to bar from 9 p.m. until last call. Night Wave began July 30, and continues through Saturday, Aug. 1, with events around downtown and the Railyard, including DJ Sol’s Alchemy Party and the Bella Gigante Drag Show at Skylight (139 W. San Francisco St.); Chango at Cowgirl BBQ (319 Guadalupe); The Jakes at Evangelos (200 W. San Francisco St.), and Haterkids with CP-Squared + Bubblz at the Matador (116 W. San Francisco St.). On Saturday, you can see Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Cymbals Eats Guitars, and Vinyl Williams at the Santa Fe Reporter Best of Block Party in the Farmers Market Pavilion (1607 Paseo de Peralta) starting at 8 p.m. Norteño comedian Carlos Medina brings his music and bilingual stand-up to Skylight, also at 8 p.m. For about a year, Medina has been performing as Graviel de la Plaga, an amalgam of oddball characters and accents from north of Santa Fe, and his Youtube videos are going viral.
