THE FIRST LEAF TURNS, Mercury enters industrious Virgo, and we feel an ephemeral quality creep into our season. Let’s savor the freedom and bounty of high summer while it is still with us as Mercury conjuncts Jupiter in extroverted Leo on Friday, and Mars enters Leo over the weekend.

Venus cuddles up to Jupiter and keeps the mood romantic, expansive, and sociable with hidden undertones of stubbornness and a tendency to be self-involved. But with this lineup in fire sign Leo, fire can be both unusually attractive and unusually dangerous. Our hearts and forests are flammable. Enjoy the heat, but watch where every spark, match, or incendiary comment lands. Most of our landscape stays bucolic, but when a fire starts, it roars.

Our minds shift to the fall schedule as thoughtful Mercury enters conscientious Virgo on Saturday, Jupiter enters Virgo midweek, and new work beckons. Before we get lost in autumnal activity, let’s make sure we’ve done what we need to do in the summer — rest, renew, and stretch our creative wings under Leo’s inspiration.

This fall looks to be catalytic and busy, but let’s not jump the gun. On Wednesday, as Mercury opposes Neptune — symbol of all things intuitive, imaginative, and confusing — we may feel lazy and have a hard time seeing where we’re going. We might as well let it be for now, and gear up the week after next when the moon is new, Mercury moves past its opposition to Neptune, and we can see farther on down the road.

FRIDAY, AUG. 7: The mood is stubbornly optimistic with a competitive streak as Mercury conjuncts Jupiter in Leo. Mercury enters Virgo midday, sharpening our wits but bringing in a breeze of self-consciousness and uncertainty to an otherwise positive day. After a serious note around dinnertime, conversation and laughter pick up as the moon enters talkative Gemini.

SATURDAY, AUG. 8: Be a butterfly and flit from place to place under a nervy Gemini moon. This afternoon can leave us off-center as the moon squares Neptune. Tonight as the moon enters Leo, the party and the ego issues crank up.

SUNDAY, AUG. 9: On an otherwise lovely day, watch a tendency to get miffed if we feel ignored or underappreciated. Nurture the garden of connection under a talkative, if not deep, Gemini moon.

MONDAY, AUG. 10: It’s a day of ambiguities and mixed feelings as the moon enters introspective Cancer and contrasts with the extroverted Leo sun. Make contacts this morning. Be kind during a disjointed afternoon. Reconnect with others tonight.

TUESDAY, AUG. 11: If life feels all wrong this morning as the moon opposes Pluto, we can recover our equilibrium easily if no one tries to talk us out of our feelings. However, we may need to make adjustments in response as the moon opposes Pluto and squares Uranus.

WEDNESDAY, AUG. 12: Pay attention to the border of imagination and illusion as Mercury opposes Uranus and the moon enters Leo. We can let our imaginations whisk us away into our hopes, fears, and stories of the past. Follow through on all issues of travel and communication.

THURSDAY, AUG. 13: A change of scene or script is called for as the sun trines innovative Uranus. We’re unusually open to progressive ideas and ready for an easy adventure. Large ambitions may be temporarily blocked, so make the most of the moment.
