Front and center: tenor Jack Swanson
Lyric tenor Jack Swanson is a second-year apprentice singer at Santa Fe Opera. In addition to appearing with his fellow apprentices in ensemble parts, this season he is covering leading roles in La fille du régiment and La finta giardiniera, ready to appear at moment’s notice in case of infirmity or emergency. He joins pianist Jacquelyn Helin in a recital at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 18, at the United Church (1804 Arroyo Chamiso). The program includes groups of songs by Schubert, Schumann (the seven opening numbers from Dichterliebe), Finzi, Bellini, and others, in addition to an aria he is prepared to sing from the opera’s main stage should he be tapped in his back-up capacity: Tonio’s high-flying “Ah, mes amis,” from La fille du régiment. Tickets cost $15 ($5 for students), and will be available at the door. — J.M.K.
