Lyric tenor Jack Swan­son is a sec­ond-year ap­pren­tice singer at Santa Fe Opera. In ad­di­tion to ap­pear­ing with his fel­low ap­pren­tices in en­sem­ble parts, this sea­son he is cov­er­ing lead­ing roles in La fille du rég­i­ment and La finta giardiniera, ready to ap­pear at mo­ment’s no­tice in case of in­fir­mity or emer­gency. He joins pi­anist Jac­que­lyn Helin in a recital at 5:30 p.m. on Tues­day, Aug. 18, at the United Church (1804 Ar­royo Chamiso). The pro­gram in­cludes groups of songs by Schu­bert, Schu­mann (the seven open­ing num­bers from Dichter­liebe), Finzi, Bellini, and oth­ers, in ad­di­tion to an aria he is pre­pared to sing from the opera’s main stage should he be tapped in his back-up ca­pac­ity: To­nio’s high-fly­ing “Ah, mes amis,” from La fille du rég­i­ment. Tick­ets cost $15 ($5 for stu­dents), and will be avail­able at the door. — J.M.K.
