Jeff Drew: Bug House (detail) 2014, digital collage
Axle Contemporary, 505-670-5854 or 505-670-7612 Before it was converted into a mobile art gallery, Axle Contemporary’s truck delivered Wonder Bread. The truck’s former history helped inspire Slices of Wonder ,an exhibit of works that incorporate iconic package designs, logos, and advertisements. The show comprises the underground comix-style pen-and-ink works of Luke Dorman; illustrations by magazine and journal cover artist Jeff Drew, who has designed many covers for Albuquerque’s Weekly Alibi; the comic superhero-themed works of Jason Garcia that reflect his Pueblo culture and history; and Vicente Tesses’ comic-style reinterpretations of traditional Bible stories. The reception is on Friday, Aug. 28, at 5 p.m. at the shade structure of the Farmers Market (1607 Paseo de Peralta). Visit www.axleart.com for updates on the gallery’s daily location.
