Mary Long: Present
2015, encaustic and mixed media on panel
Karan Ruhlen Gallery, 225 Canyon Road, 505-820-0807 The gallery presents Conversations on Abstraction, an exhibit of paintings by Martha Rea Baker, Mary Long, and Daniel Phill. The artists take different approaches to abstraction in their work. Baker’s compositions allude to the passage of time, inspired by the natural erosion and strata of Southwestern landscapes. Long’s layered paintings contrast neutral grays with vibrant colors in patchwork imagery. Phill’s fluid, gestural abstractions suggest flowering blossoms and other floral subjects. The show opens Friday, Sept. 25, with a 5 p.m. reception.
