Nouveau flamenco: Ottmar Liebert

Pasatiempo - - RANDOM ACTS -

Before he was world-famous and nominated for numerous Best New Age Album Grammy Awards, Ottmar Liebert performed his version of nouveau flamenco guitar in bars and restaurants in Santa Fe, where he’s lived since 1986. Now his music is played just about everywhere. Whether or not you know it, you’ve heard Liebert and his band, Luna Negra, play “Barcelona Nights,” “Santa Fe,” and “Snakecharmer” many times. His instrumental pieces are stunningly beautiful yet subtle enough to blend in with backgrounds as disparate as a romantic café, a department store, or a motion-picture soundtrack. Ottmar Liebert and Luna Negra play at the Lensic Performing Arts Center on Thursday, Oct. 8, at 7:30 p.m. in a concert benefiting the nonprofit patient advocacy group Fight Colorectal Cancer. Tickets, $20 to $100, are available at www.ticketssantafe.org. For $100, you can meet Ottmar Liebert and Luna Negra following the concert.
