Ricardo Fernandez: The Strength of a Transitional Stage
2015, oil on canvas
Meyer East Gallery, 225 Canyon Road, 505-983-1657 Mexican artist Ricardo Fernandez’s paintings are reminiscent of the compositions of Spanish Baroque painters. His archetypal figurative imagery and stark landscapes are rendered in a realist style with a touch of surreality. “I try to come close to realism in order to achieve a specific visual purpose,” he writes. “That purpose is to provide something that connects to both the viewer and myself in a very particular way, psychologically speaking.” A show of his works opens Friday, Oct. 9, with a reception at 5 p.m.
