Seasonal staple: Handel’s Messiah
And suddenly it’s that time of year again: the season of Handel’s Messiah, courtesy of the Santa Fe Symphony Orchestra and Chorus. The cast of characters is familiar from last season, comprising guest conductor Tom Hall (music director of the Baltimore Choral Arts Society), soprano Devon Guthrie, tenor Joshua Dennis, and bass-baritone Joseph Beutel. A new participant this year, however, is mezzo-soprano Alyssa Martin, who last summer was an apprentice artist at Santa Fe Opera. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 21, and 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 22, at the Lensic Performing Arts Center (211 W. San Francisco St.). Tickets ($23-$80) are available by visiting www.ticketssantafe.org or by calling 505-988-1234. Hall delivers a lecture an hour before each performance, free to ticket holders.
